Storm Observing Updates/News:

  • 07/03/2005 - Overnight MCS moved through norman and offered a great opportunity for lightning photography. I was able to get some great shots with the North Base radars in the foreground.

  • 06/15/2005 - END OF 2005 CHASE SEASON!! 1 new windshield, 2 new side-mirrors, 2 new tires, and only about half a dozen tornadoes. I will still be observing local storms.

  • 06/12/2005 - Observed 1 tornado associated with a cyclic supercell near Jayton, TX.

  • 06/09/2005 - Observed 1 tornado associated with a HP supercell east of Meade, KS. Also observed 3 inch hail, very high winds in RFD, and extremely frequent lightning

  • 05/12/2005 - Observed 1 definite tornado, 2 under review associated with a HP supercell near South Plains, TX. Also observed 3-4 inch hail that destroyed our windshield, and side mirrors. Other interesting phenomena of the day were the extreme gustnadoes, sometimes lasting for more than 5 minutes and had vertical debris clouds with heights of several hundred meters. Difficulty determining the additional tornadoes lies in the fact that they could well have been one of these long-lived gustnadoes that occluded back into the cold pool of the storm. However, movement and placement of mesocyclone in relation to these is causing a second-guess.
